FSTS is Born!
In November 2015, we decided to take action to address a problem at our school in New Orleans, Benjamin Franklin High School: all students must complete a year-long independent research project as a graduation requirement, but many were having difficulty and simply did not know where to begin. Having research experience, we decided to hold a seminar to help our peers. The seminar, titled "From Student to Scientist: The IRP Seminar" focused on helping guide students in the completion of their independent research projects. On November 20th, 2015, we held our inaugural seminar and had an incredible turnout. Students filled the school auditorium, and the seminar was an enormous success! Afterwards, we had an idea: why not spread our idea beyond our school community? It was in that moment that the From Student to Scientist concept of students helping students and spreading science was born....
